WELCOME to the

DICKINSON LITTLE ITALY FESTIVAL

The Dickinson Little Italy Festival of Galveston County is a family friendly event occurring annually during the month of March, on the Saturday preceding the feast day of St. Joseph, with the purpose of honoring and exhibiting Sicilian-Italian customs, traditions, food, music, contests, games, and culture!

ABOUT US

OUR HISTORY

In the late 19th to early 20th century, Dickinson was referred to as an "Italian Colony" and also as "Little Italy" and has been documented as such in numerous resources. The Sicilian-Italian immigrants and their families had a significant impact on the economic development and growth of our community for almost a century, not only in farming and carpentry, but also through numerous thriving businesses and services. One of the most significant contributions of Italians in Dickinson was Dickinson Ice and Fuel which currently operates as WCID #1 and also St. Joseph Catholic Church which later became Shrine of the True Cross.

TRACING OUR ROOTS

While the Dickinson Little Italy Festival of Galveston County honors our Italian ancestors who sacrificed so much for our community, we are also laying the groundwork for future generations to know and understand each of these family’s stories. This year we are beginning to compile a database of these family’s lineages beginning with their immigrant ancestors.  Fill out this document to gather information on your family's history;
