MAGLIOLO

 

Andrew (Andrea) Magliolo arrived in Galveston in 1905, at age 17 from Favignana, Sicilia, searching for the American Dream.

Andrew married Grazia DiMare in 1909. His brother, Joseph (Giuseppe), also came to Galveston, he married Marietta Mary DiMare in 1918, Grazia’s sister.

 

Once Andrew arrived in Galveston, he went to work as a barber. In time he was able to open his own shop, Located in the Panama Hotel across from Santa Fe Railroad Station, 25th & Strand.


Andrew & Grazia had 7 children 2 daughters & 5 sons.


4 sons became doctors Joe, Andrew, Albert, & Amedeo, all attended University of Texas and UTMB, Adolph became a dentist, attended University of Texas and Texas Dental in Houston, daughter Ursula worked for President of Santa Fe Railroad, youngest daughter Virginia, attended University of Texas, became a Reg. Dietician. Andrew did this all on a Barbers salary.

After completing their education son Joe opened the Magliolo Clinic abt. 1938 in Dickinson, with time all the brothers joined him. In 1980 Dr. Mike joined his dad Dr. Amedeo (Amy) till his passing in 1988.


Magliolo family continued to serve the medical community till Dr. Mike’s retirement in 2017.

 

Andrew Magliolo’s AMERICAN DREAM HAD COME TRUE, OUR FAMILY lives on today.

 

DIMARE


DiMare means “of the sea” They were all great fishermen.

 

Sebastiano DiMare married Carmela Sitra in 1874 Porto Empedocle, Sicilia. He and his wife and 8 of their 13 children arrived in Galveston abt. 1903.



Some of the sons were shrimpers / fishermen, some worked at the docks and other jobs in Galveston to support their families.

Two of the daughters Grazia and Marietta Mary married Two Magliolo brothers Andrew & Joseph (Giuseppe)

 

Andrew Magliolo  and Sebastiano DiMare worked hard and made many sacrifices for their growing families. They left a great legacy of love, faith and family values to their children and future generations.
