SALVATO FAMILY

 

Joseph Benjamin Salvato was born on November 15, 1881 in Poggioreale, Sicily. He came to America in 1887 through the port of New Orleans, LA. The family worked on plantations for a short while then migrated to Texas. First to High Bank then to Dickinson.


Joseph married Dominica Cucchia in 1904. In 1905 he purchased farmland and built a home at 3505 Hwy. 3. The home received a Historical Landmark in 2016. They farmed Strawberries and Joseph was a Carpenter. Joseph and Dominica had eight chidren.


The Salvatos owned several businesses in Dickinson. The Green Lantern, Humble station, Rodeo Café, Cedar Oaks, Mike’s Fine Foods and Ritz Café and Motel.
